Solid opening question. I'd have to say a few Powerbars and some Gatorade - you know how intense checking your roster can be. And when you're looking to pick someone up off waivers? Forget it - you need all the energy you can get. It's like fueling up for a workout.
2) Going back to the draft Michael how do you think you fared having the 1st pick in the draft? Did you feel like your draft went accordingly or was there some disappointment in the later rounds? Please Elaborate
I couldn't believe it when I saw that I had the 1st pick. I wish I had mentally prepared for the draft earlier than 15 minutes before I sat down at my computer. I must say, I was back and forth over whether or not I should've taken Tom Brady instead of Brees. In the end, I'm happy with my decision. Brees is a lock for the MVP despite his -2 point performance last week. I'm not worried.
As for the rest of the draft, it was tough having to pick back-to-back at the end of every round. 90 seconds is definitely not enough time to think and draft accordingly. Oh, and not being able to find the 'DRAFT THIS PLAYER BUTTON' at first - that definitely made the draft a little more overwhelming than I had envisioned. The s--t talking that went on during the draft was definitely the most entertaining aspect though.
3) This league is unlike many others referring to the pointing system. Has this had a negative effect or positive effect on your teams performance this far? If you could change one thing about the pointing system what would it be?
Got that right. Points are definitely unique to this league. I'd say it's had a bigger impact on my actual draft strategy than on my overall performance. Trying to draft according to these rules makes you look for players who score touchdowns - these might not be the typical 'stone-cold-lead-pipe-lock' fantasy players you'd find in other leagues. This is probably the biggest factor in explaining how our draft went (Brees, Manning, Brady in the top 3).
If I could change the points at all, I'd have to say that the people who drafted players that weren't expected to play this season (e.g. Vick, Crabtree, etc) should be rewarded for going against 'expert' analysis. If they were bold enough to draft players who weren't on opening weekend rosters, they should get some more love. Shout out to you JD, this one's for you.
4) Giuseppe Leone's Power Rankings has you listed at #5 best team in the league and the main reason is for your potential and outlook for the rest of the season. Do you feel you have the potential his is speaking of? Or do you think that ranking might be a little to premature?
I definitely feel like my team has the potential to make a run. Right now I’m kind of treading water – I appreciate the #5 ranking though. I feel like my roster isn’t bad on paper, but the guys need to perform on the field. Overall, power rankings won’t really mean much until the fifth week or so. By then we’ll be able to see how the teams really stack up.
5) What would a victory mean to you against the undefeated Shanghi Knights (3-0) on Sunday? Would this give you a little more confidence going into the month of October? Or do you feel regardless of the outcome you have a great chance to make the playoffs?
Let’s put it this way – a Mike Willhoft win against Giuseppe Leone is something most of the league is rooting for right now, and I want to be able to give the people what they want. I need to start putting up some wins if I want everyone to take me seriously for the rest of the season. And giving him his first loss on the season would definitely give me a confidence boost. Then again, a win against ANYBODY would do the same for me.
6) There has been league skepticism regarding performance enhancing drugs and the use of them during fantasy football season. How do you feel about performance enhancing drugs taken illegally by certain people around the league? Should we have random drug testing?
Next question.
7) Who do you think is the biggest contender and who is the biggest pretender in the league thus far?
Biggest contender – Zach Stennett: best team on paper AND on the field (check the stats - enough said)
Biggest pretender – Giuseppe Leone: no way he can keep this lucky streak
alive when he started the season by wanting to trade his entire roster (check the Power Rankings – “Is it luck or is it skill?”)
8) Before week 3 you made a decision to trade Matt Ryan and Steve Breaston for Terrel Owens? How has the trade helped your team out so far? What was the idea before making the trade and do you think this trade could help you out in the long run?
That COULD go down as one of the best all-time trades in fantasy football history for both teams. Not often do you see an early-season trade like that with a combined point total of 3 for all players involved. Let’s move on.
9) Name 2 players in the league not on your team that you would want in a trade and 2 players on your team that you would want to trade?
2 players to trade for: Andre Johnson – have you seen the Dick’s commercial where he’s catching everything in the store? Dude is a MAN. Also, Maurice Jones-Drew. Last week’s performance? Just a prequel to what’s about to happen this season.
2 players to trade away: Rashard Mendenhall and Michael Crabtree. I mean, come on. Would anyone argue that?
10) What week will it be when JD gets his first victory? Or do you think he will go winless through 16? Also elaborate on why JD is struggling so much in his first 3 weeks.
JD picks up his first win THIS WEEK. Yeah, I said it. Everyone loves a Cinderella – I see things turning around for him. Obviously, Michael Vick’s absence has hurt, but now that he’s reinstated I can guarantee that he’ll have at least one 3-touchdown game for JD.
11) How do you think Zach will perform know that he is not in the office? Will he struggle? Or will he perform much better because he has more time to look at top free agents and read more fantasy news while we are making OSC cases?
It doesn’t look good for the rest of us, that’s pretty much it. He’s already killing it on the waiver wire – now that he’s not crushing Hire cases, he’s got the time to scout all of the free agents.
12) I wanted an early Super Bowl prediction with a winner.
Chargers VS Saints – San Diego takes it in a close one, 38-31.
